RedBlacks' Harris says it's 'nut-cutting time' after 1-5-1 start

The only reason the Ottawa RedBlacks aren't in last place in the CFL is because the Hamilton Tiger-Cats are in the midst of an even more abysmal season - a fact that isn't lost on Trevor Harris

The RedBlacks' starting quarterback addressed rumours of locker room dysfunction and the effects of mounting pressure to win games after a 1-5-1 start by expressing confidence in his team and belief that success is closer than many may think.

"We're very close to turning the corner," Harris told Tim Baines of The Ottawa Sun on Wednesday. "You look at the record and you probably think, 'Oh man, fractured locker room, bickering, coaches yelling at each other, team falling apart' ... that's not the case. Most of the panicking is going on outside of the locker room. We're busting our butts. We're going to get these wins. We need to get that springboard win, why not (Thursday)?"

Harris' confidence doesn't come without a sense of self-awareness regarding his team's need to rise above the odds.

"It comes down to us being more aggressive, bucking up and saying, 'We're going to freaking make the play.' It's go time, it's nut-cutting time, jobs are on the line, games are on the line. We have to make sure that's our mindset moving forward," he said.

The RedBlacks will look to take that step in the right direction Thursday night when they welcome the undefeated Edmonton Eskimos to TD Place Stadium.
