Stampeders' DaVaris Daniels wins Most Outstanding Rookie award
Calgary Stampeders receiver DaVaris Daniels was named Most Outstanding Rookie at the 2016 CFL Awards, beating out Ottawa RedBlacks offensive lineman Jason Lauzon-Seguin.
Daniels was second on the Stampeders with 885 receiving yards on 51 receptions, with nine touchdowns. The rookie's 17.4 average per-catch ranked second among receivers with 50 or more catches in 2016.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers kicker Justin Medlock was named Most Outstanding Special Teams Player over Hamilton kick returner Brandon Banks.
Medlock set a CFL record with 60 field goals in a single season, while going a perfect 40-for-40 on extra-point attempts.
In his speech, Medlock noted how he was released eight times and traded once in his career.
Stampeders left tackle Derek Dennis won Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman over RedBlacks centre Jon Gott.
Dennis was the leader of a unit that featured the league's leading rusher, the highest scoring offence, and allowed the fewest sacks in the league.
