Hicks was involved in a shooting at the Marquee Beer Market, a nightclub in Calgary, according to Alyssa Julie and Rebecca Joseph of Global News.
"Obviously this is an extremely difficult and upsetting time for the players and staff," Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel said in a statement. "It's a terrible tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mylan's family."
Hicks was in his first season with the Stampeders. He played collegiately at Michigan State, where he was named the team's most inspirational player in 2014.
