Saturday's clash between Union Berlin and Stuttgart was locked at 4-4 at half-time, the first time eight goals have been scored in the first 45 minutes of a Bundesliga game.
Hosts Union went two goals up when Andrej Ilic and Diogo Leite scored from set-pieces, but Stuttgart hit back to level at 2-2 through Deniz Undav and Enzo Millot.
Union again hit the lead thanks to a stunning long-range strike from Leopold Querfeld, before Stuttgart's Jeff Chabot and Chris Fuhrich scored two in three minutes and Ilic struck again in first-half stoppage time to level the scores.
The most goals scored in one half of Bundesliga football came in 1982, when Borussia Dortmund beat Arminia Bielefeld 11-1, with 10 of the goals coming after half-time.
