There isn't much left for Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng to accomplish at club level.

From winning the Champions League title to helping Bayern collect a half-dozen Bundesliga trophies, there's hardly a winner's medal that hasn't been placed around Boateng's neck.

While a majority of footballers will end their careers without experiencing half of that success, the German international appears ready for a change of scenery and a new challenge after lifting just about every major honour since joining Bayern in 2012.

"I've experienced everything at FC Bayern, and I am slowly coming to a point where I must answer myself certain questions," he in an interview with Socrates Magazin, as translated by Stephan Uersfeld of ESPN FC.

"What are the goals I have not reached yet? Do I, time and time again, want to prove myself at the same club with the same pre-conditions?"

Boateng, who is facing a race to regain fitness ahead of the World Cup after appearing to suffer a thigh injury during Bayern's Champions League loss to Real Madrid on Wednesday, is currently under contract until 2021.

Bayern will likely be reluctant to part ways with the 29-year-old, but the Bundesliga champion could be forced into fielding offers if he does decide he needs a new challenge. A decision to leave will also impact Bayern's ability to demand a lucrative transfer fee considering that Boateng's perceived desire to leave could affect the German side's leverage at the bargaining table.

Since leaving Manchester City for Bayern, Boateng has won six Bundesliga titles, the Champions League, a trio of DFB-Pokal cups, the FIFA Club World Cup, and other minor trophies. He was also a member of the German squad that won the World Cup in 2014.
