Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman will be sidelined for several weeks after undergoing surgery to repair ligaments in his left ankle, the Bundesliga side announced Monday.

However, Sport BILD's Christian Falk expects Coman to miss the remainder of the season.

The injury - suffered in last weekend's 0-0 draw with Hertha Berlin - could hinder the Frenchman's chances of playing in this summer's World Cup. Coman had already faced tough competition for minutes in Didier Deschamps' side, with Anthony Martial, Kylian Mbappe, Florian Thauvin, Thomas Lemar, and Ousmane Dembele all capable of playing in wide positions.

Coman enjoyed a brief renaissance after Jupp Heynckes returned to the bench, scoring all three of his league goals since the 72-year-old tactician was re-appointed.

Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, the two warhorses of this Bayern side, will now have to compensate for their younger teammate's absence. Considering they are both out of contract at the end of the campaign, they will have an opportunity to show they're deserving of a new deal.
