Aubameyang's penalty the difference as Dortmund ends DFB-Pokal curse

Fourth time is apparently the charm.

Borussia Dortmund finally claimed an elusive DFB-Pokal title in the club's fourth consecutive appearance in the competition's final, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's second-half penalty clinched a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Dortmund had lost the previous three finals, twice to Bayern Munich and once to Wolfsburg.

It is BVB's first major honour in five years, dating back to the double-winning 2011-12 season.

Ousmane Dembele cut apart Eintracht's defence to hand Thomas Tuchel's side the lead in the eighth minute, but Ante Rebic responded for the Eagles midway through the first half with an accurate curling effort.

Then the Bundesliga's goal-scoring king stepped in. After seeing his bicycle kick denied by a goal-line clearance, Aubameyang converted a spot-kick for his 40th goal across all competitions.
