Roy Jones Jr., Anthony Pettis to headline Gamebred Boxing 4
UFC star Jorge Masvidal is taking his career as a boxing promoter to the next level.
In the feature bout of his next event, Gamebred Boxing 4, former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis will make his boxing debut against all-time boxing great Roy Jones Jr., Masvidal announced Monday on "The MMA Hour."
The card is set to take place April 1 in Milwaukee - Pettis' hometown - and will feature several other notable names within the mixed martial arts world.
Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who retired from MMA in 2022 and is scheduled to make his pro boxing debut Feb. 10 in Brazil, will face Jeremy Stephens in a rematch. Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza will take on former UFC light heavyweight champ Vitor Belfort for the second time.
Paul Daley, who also retired from MMA last year, will meet ex-Bellator fighter Anthony Taylor. Additionally, UFC veterans Pearl Gonzalez and Gina Mazany will collide.
All five matchups will be professional bouts. Jones-Pettis will be contested over eight rounds, while the others will be six-rounders.
Masvidal, who is set to step into the Octagon against Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 on April 8, began promoting boxing events last May and held two more cards in August and November. He started his promoting career with MMA but then turned to boxing.
Jones, a former world champion and the biggest boxing name on the card by far, last competed as a pro in 2018. However, he stepped into the ring for an highly publicized exhibition bout against Mike Tyson in November 2020. It was ruled a split draw.
