Oscar De La Hoya is thinking about throwing his name into the ring for the 2020 U.S. presidential race.

During an appearance on "TMZ Live," the boxing legend said he's "very seriously" considering running for president and is in the process of putting a team together to further explore the idea.

"I am actually very, very serious," De La Hoya said, "and I strongly feel that if a Kanye West can do it and announce and maybe tease the world that he would maybe one day wanna run for president, why not me?

"I've had literally, over the years, ever since I became a professional in boxing, I've had millions of people tell me, 'Look, why don't you represent? Why don't you stand up and have a bigger voice?' And obviously, the biggest voice you can have is being president."

At the moment, it sounds like De La Hoya's decision to run will hinge on the feedback he receives from his exploratory committee.

"If the numbers are right and they tell me that it looks good, I'm gonna go for it," he said.
