Nadal on back injury: 'I have a little bit of an oedema in the bone in the back'
Rafael Nadal cruised through the French Open, although he suffered through rounds one and two with back pain. That's the same back pain that he pushed through in the Australian Open Final back in January.
Nadal was too injured to complete a comeback against Stanislas Wawrinka at the Aussie, but he did shove the pain to the back of his mind at Roland Garros and win his ninth French Open title.
His health heading into the third Grand Slam of the season remains a question. Nadal admitted he was going to take a break from tennis to rest his back.
"I don’t have a very bad feeling but I still feel the back a little bit. It’s something similar I had at the Australian Open. I have a little bit of an oedema in the bone in the back," he told reporters Sunday.
He's not back to form yet either, saying, "I need to improve a little bit to try to play well in Wimbledon."
Nadal will fly into London on Wednesday and begin to practice. World No. 2 Novak Djokovic is the favorite to win Wimbledon.
