Running Backs
- You shouldn't worry about LeSean McCoy, but injuries to the Eagles offensive line could take a little of the shine off his fantasy stats. I don't mean to alarm his owners, he has a very nice matchup with the Colts this week and I would still draft him number one overall if drafts took place today. But if anyone else goes down on the Eagles offensive line, McCoy's production could suffer.
- Jamaal Charles let his owners down in a big way on Sunday, in part because Andy Reid only gave him seven carries and 11 touches overall. While he will obviously improve on his 2.7 yards per carry average against Denver this week, a weakened Chiefs offensive line facing a strengthened Broncos front could be trouble.
- You have to get the most out of Arian Foster while he's healthy and his early season schedule sets him up to be a nice sell-high candidate. If he goes off against the Raiders (which is likely to happen) start floating him out there in trade talks.
- It looks like Eddie Lacy will be cleared to play this week, after suffering a concussion in Week 1. The Packers bruising back has the benefit of a few extra days thanks to playing in the Thursday nighter last week. James Starks will get probably see more action than usual, as Green Bay tries to run against New York's stout front.
- So Andre Ellington played after all on Monday night, despite reports that he would be held out due to a foot injury. Perhaps more shocking, is that he didn't look all that bad. Ellington claimed he was hindered slightly in the game, but he put up 80 total yards. Even with the injury, Ellington is a top-15 running back in fantasy this week.
- Several backs are nursing injuries from Week 1, including Toby Gerhart (ankle), Knowshon Moreno (shoulder), and Doug Martin (knee). Gerhart tweaked the ankle against the Eagles, but is expected to play Sunday. Moreno is a new addition to the injury report, so lock him in unless news comes out his shoulder is worse than initially thought. Martin seems to be in the most danger of missing a week, even though the team called his issue minor.
- Ben Tate's name is already absent from the rankings after he left Week 1 with a knee injury and will now be sidelined a few weeks. Terrance West may not have scored a touchdown in the game (Isaiah Crowell vultures two scores), but West had 100 yards in his NFL debut and is playing in a system that produces major fantasy value for running backs. West is an RB2 until further notice and Crowell is an interesting flex option in deep leagues.
- Justin Forsett may have been a hot name on the waiver wire, but Bernard Pierce will get at least one more chance to carry the load for the Ravens. Pierce was benched for fumbling in Week 1 and will have to earn back the trust of his coaches and teammates this week against a Steelers defense that was run over by the Browns. Pierce isn't a special talent, however he does have enough skill to lead this backfield the rest of the season, starting will a decent performance Thursday night.
- Both Reggie Bush and Joique Bell worry me this week going against Luke Kuechly and the Panthers front seven. Hopefully they can get their numbers in the passing game, because there won't be many yards given up on the ground in this one.
- Frank Gore has legitimate competition in the San Francisco backfield with rookie Carlos Hyde looking like the far more explosive back in Week 1. Barring injury, Gore will hold on to the job, he just may lose more carries to Hyde than originally expected.
- Maybe this is more hope than anything, but Ahmad Bradshaw could gain value if the Colts turn to a more pass-happy attack. Trent Richardson isn't getting the job done and the team is built to move the ball through the air.
- If Bishop Sankey wants to overtake Shonn Greene in Tennessee, he better do something this week against the Cowboys. At the moment Greene is the starter and is on the verge of the best matchup a running back can ask for this season.
- Zac Stacy and Benny Cunningham are uninspiring options in a bad offense. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere for fantasy stats.
- Devonta Freeman's time will come, but for now he is part of a four-headed backfield in Atlanta. That's right, Steven Jackson, Jacquizz Rodgers and Antone Smith are all getting work. The Bengals defense will hold all of them in check this weekend.
