Quarterbacks

  • Anyone who expected a letdown year for Peyton Manning and the Broncos offense must have been disappointed last week. Manning picked up right where he left off at the end of last season and will spend most weeks at the top of these rankings. On Sunday, he will face a Chiefs defense that he carved up for 403 yards and five touchdowns in their last meeting.
  • Aaron Rodgers had a tough start to the year against the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks, but the sun will be shining on him again when he heads home for a matchup with a very forgiving Jets secondary.
  • One day, Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton will wake up and realize Andrew Luck's arm is the key to the team's offensive success. Hamilton needs to allow Luck to throw the ball at will in the first quarter, and not wait until the team is down by a couple touchdowns to open up the offense. Maybe this will be the week the Colts come out firing, as they try to keep up with Chip Kelly's uptempo Eagles attack.
  • If you don't believe in Russell Wilson yet, you are in denial.
  • Jake Locker makes a surprise appearance in the top 10, thanks to his opponent - the Dallas Cowboys. Injuries and a general lack of talent have turned the Cowboys defense into a punching bag… actually that's not true, there is a chance you might trip over a punching bag on the way to the end zone. Expect Locker to have another strong outing and start to generate some buzz as a potential low-end QB1 the rest of the way. He certainly has the weapons to do it.
  • While he may have looked like a Hall of Famer against the Giants defense on Monday, Matthew Stafford is in for a much stiffer test when he visits Carolina. The Panthers are fielding the same punishing defense that can suck the life out of any opponent, even one that features the best receiver in the game - Calvin Johnson.
  • Jay Cutler also finds himself further down this list than usual due to a west coast trip to San Francisco. The 49ers defense isn't at full power, but they haven't lost any of their fight. With the Bears receivers a little banged up, Cutler could struggle.
  • Carson Palmer put up QB1 numbers last week and barely used Larry Fitzgerald. Now he gets the Giants, who were picked apart on MNF. With Michael Floyd coming into his own and John Brown providing an explosive element to the Cardinals passing game, Palmer is an excellent start this week and maybe beyond.
