Wide Receivers

  • Peyton Manning likes to keep his receivers happy, and defenses guessing, by spreading the ball around evenly. Julius Thomas had three touchdowns last week, so expect Demaryius Thomas to find the end zone once against the Chiefs. Teammate Emmanuel Sanders is also a good bet for a touchdown in the game.
  • When all other Packers struggled, Jordy Nelson had nine receptions for 83 yards versus the Seahawks. If he can do that against a formidable secondary, imagine the line he posts at home against the Jets.
  • Percy Harvin? Yes, please. Harvin didn't score in the opener, but his usage was exactly what owners hoped for when they drafted him. If he stays healthy, Harvin will be a top-15 fantasy receiver in 2014.
  • Harvin's former team, the Vikings, have finally found a weapon to replace him in the passing game. Cordarrelle Patterson may have to deal with Darrelle Revis this week, but the Vikings will find ways to get him the ball and when they do, Patterson will find ways to get yards.
  • Michael Floyd looked the part of a number one receiver on Monday, hogging all the targets from Larry Fitzgerald. It's a great time to by low on the veteran Fitzgerald, but Floyd is the top option in the Cardinals passing attack going forward.
  • Rookie receivers Brandin Cooks and Kelvin Benjamin appear to have carved out major roles in their team's offensive game plans. Apparently the preseason buzz was warranted.
  • I'm a big fan of DeAndre Hopkins talent, but I fear Ryan Fitzpatrick won't be able to generate enough passing yards to produce two reliable fantasy receivers. With Andre Johnson still the top dog in Houston, Hopkins will have to fight for his yards. Hopkins had four catches for 89 yards and a long touchdown last week, and has the lowly Raiders next on the schedule. If he delivers a big game, I would be thinking of selling high.
  • What Allen Hurns did in Week 1 was truly spectacular. He may become the team's defacto number one receiver this week if Marquise Lee's hamstring injury keeps him out against the Redskins and Cecil Shorts is unable to play again. There are a lot of reasons to be skeptical of Hurns, but he has done it in the preseason and the regular season. For now, we know he has talent and an opportunity, which is a recipe for fantasy success.
