Tuesday's Third Baseman Value Rankings
Here are theScore's third baseman value rankings for Tuesday, April 5 (note: makeup games between HOU at NYY and BOS at CLE are not included):
Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | 3B | SS | OF | SP
Top Options
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Kyle Seager (SEA) | at TEX | 9 |
Matt Duffy (SF) | at MIL | 8 |
Josh Donaldson (TOR) | at TB | 8 |
Adrian Beltre (TEX) | vs. SEA | 8 |
Todd Frazier (CWS) | at OAK | 8 |
Seager has hit 10-for-20 with three homers against Rangers SP Martin Perez for his career. If that's not enough to pique interest in the Mariners' 3B, he has also hit .353 with a .405 OBP in 185 plate appearances at Globe Life Park. Despite his price, Seager has tournament upside.
Donaldson, Beltre and Frazier are great cash-game plays, but their big-ticket salaries require a huge day at the dish to really turn heads in tournament formats.

Mid-Tier Targets
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Matt Carpenter (STL) | at PIT | 7 |
Evan Longoria (TB) | vs. TOR | 7 |
Nolan Arenado (COL) | at ARI | 6 |
Jake Lamb (ARI) | vs. COL | 6 |
Arenado's career batting average and OBP fall close to fifty percentage points when playing on the road compared to Coors Field in Colorado. While his hitting numbers on the road aren't great, his power plays regardless of the environment; he hit 20 homers at home and 22 on the road in 2015. He's more of a high-end tournament play in Arizona.
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Josh Harrison (PIT) | vs. STL | 5 |
David Freese (PIT) | vs. STL | 5 |
Justin Turner (LAD) | at SD | 5 |
Corey Seager (LAD) | at SD | 4 |
Martin Prado (MIA) | vs. DET | 4 |
Yunel Escobar (LAA) | vs. CHC | 4 |
Seager has plenty of upside in his first full season in the bigs, but his DFS value needs to be contained to shortstop, where power hitting is scarce. Seager's just not going to produce enough on a nightly basis to out-class the likes of Donaldson, Arenado and other established veterans.

Nothing to See Here
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Kris Bryant (CHC) | at LAA | 3 |
Danny Valencia (OKA) | vs. CWS | 3 |
Nick Castellanos (DET) | at MIA | 2 |
Brandon Drury (ARI) | vs. COL | 2 |
Yangervis Solarte (SD) | vs. LAD | 1 |
Bryant struggled on the road in his rookie season (.243/.333, compared to .311/.408 at home) and the Angels have a park that isn't friendly to power hitters.
Valencia has an opportunity to exceed expectations hitting in the middle of the Athletics' order, but not on Tuesday; he is just 2-for-17 in his career against Jose Quintana.
