Tuesday's Outfielder Value Rankings
Here are theScore's outfielder value rankings for Tuesday, April 5 (note: makeup games between HOU at NYY and BOS at CLE are not included):
Value Rankings

Top Options
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Andrew McCutchen (PIT) | vs. STL | 10 |
Nelson Cruz (SEA) | at TEX | 10 |
J.D. Martinez (DET) | at MIA | 9 |
Dexter Fowler (CHC) | at LAA | 9 |
David Peralta (ARI) | vs. COL | 9 |
Gregory Polanco (PIT) | vs. STL | 8 |
McCutchen has had Michael Wacha's number throughout his career. The center fielder is hitting an absurd .500 with three extra base hits in 16 at bats against St. Louis' right hander. His newly-minted second spot in the batting order should lead to even more plate appearances.
Cruz is just a modest 2-for-3 against Martin Perez, but the veteran slugger has absolutely mashed lefties throughout his career. Furthermore, Cruz, a former Ranger, has a career .914 OPS at Globe Life Park in Arlington.
Fowler has never faced LHP Andrew Heaney in his career, but the switch hitter has fared much better from the right side. His patient approach and leadoff status in Chicago's loaded lineup should lead to plenty of runs scored.

Mid-Tier Targets
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Giancarlo Stanton (MIA) | vs. DET | 7 |
Shin-soo Choo (TEX) | vs. SEA | 7 |
Starling Marte (PIT) | vs. STL | 7 |
Justin Upton (DET) | at MIA | 7 |
Melky Cabrera (CWS) | at OAK | 7 |
Yasiel Puig (LAD) | at SD | 6 |
Denard Span (SF) | at MIL | 6 |
Hunter Pence (SF) | at MIL | 6 |
Austin Jackson (CWS) | at OAK | 6 |
Choo has a career .908 OPS against RHP in his career. His high OBP and second spot in the order give him a high probability of scoring a run or two with Prince Fielder and Adrian Beltre hitting behind him.
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Billy Burns (OAK) | vs. CWS | 6 |
Charlie Blackmon (COL) | at ARI | 6 |
Christian Yelich (MIA) | vs. DET | 6 |
Nori Aoki (SEA) | at TEX | 6 |
Melvin Upton Jr. (SD) | vs. LAD | 5 |
Matt Kemp (SD) | vs. LAD | 5 |
Carlos Gonzalez (COL) | at ARI | 5 |
Wil Myers (SD) | vs. LAD | 5 |
Gerardo Parra (COL) | at ARI | 5 |
Blackmon, Gonzalez and Parra are obviously much better plays when at Coors Field, but it can't be overlooked how good of a hitter each player is. They're all GPP-only with Shelby Miller on the bump.

Nothing to See Here
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Jose Bautista (TOR) | at TB | 4 |
Mike Trout (LAA) | vs. CHC | 4 |
Kole Calhoun (LAA) | vs. CHC | 3 |
Adam Eaton (CWS) | at OAK | 3 |
Yoenis Cespedes (NYM) | at KC | 3 |
Steven Souza Jr. (TB) | vs. TOR | 3 |
Jason Heyward (CHC) | at LAA | 3 |
Matt Holliday (STL) | at PIT | 3 |
Ryan Braun (MIL) | vs. SF | 3 |
Delino DeShields (TEX) | vs. SEA | 3 |
Josh Reddick (OAK) | vs. CWS | 2 |
Craig Gentry (LAA) | vs. CHC | 1 |
Bautista is hitless in 13 career at bats against Jake Odorizzi. He does have five career walks against the right hander, meaning he might break out soon, but he's better left alone at this point.
Trout's ownership will likely be extremely high every time he plays, but he's a strong fade on Tuesday. Surprisingly, the right-handed hitter has fared slightly worse against LHP. Jon Lester is one of the best lefties in the game and has held Trout in check, allowing just two hits in 11 at bats with five punch outs.
