Tuesday's Starting Pitcher Value Rankings
Here are theScore's pitcher value rankings for Tuesday, April 5 (note: makeup games between HOU at NYY and BOS at CLE are not included):
Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | 3B | SS | OF | SP
Top Options
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Jose Quintana (CWS) | at OAK | 10 |
Justin Verlander (DET) | at MIA | 9 |
Johnny Cueto (SF) | at MIL | 8 |
Quintana will be a highly-owned commodity on Tuesday, but rightly so. He has dominated A's hitters throughout the years, holding their current bats to a .171/.245/.228 slash line in his career. The Coliseum is very pitcher-friendly and Oakland's lineup is terrible to say the least. Quintana is a staple in cash games.

Mid-Tier Targets
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
James Shields (SD) | vs. LAD | 7 |
Jon Lester (CHC) | at LAA | 7 |
Aaron Sanchez (TOR) | at TB | 6 |
Jake Odorizzi (TB) | vs. TOR | 6 |
Wei-Yin Chen (MIA) | vs. DET | 5 |
Shelby Miller (ARI) | vs. COL | 5 |
Andrew Heaney (LAA) | vs. CHC | 5 |
Sanchez has dominated the Rays in his career, but the majority of that dominance came pitching out of the bullpen. It's a whole different world when facing the same hitters three times a game, but Sanchez's stuff certainly gives him plenty of upside. Limit him to GPP use only because of his lack of starting experience.
Odorizzi is a major contrarian going up against the best lineup in baseball. He has held the meat of Toronto's order -- Josh Donaldson, Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion -- to a combined 4-for-34. Don't be afraid to draft him in tournaments as he comes off a career-best 3.35 ERA in 2015.

Nothing to See Here
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Hisashi Iwakuma (SEA) | at TEX | 4 |
Jimmy Nelson (MIL) | vs. SF | 4 |
Martin Perez (TEX) | vs. SEA | 3 |
Michael Wacha (STL) | at PIT | 3 |
Scott Kazmir (LAD) | at SD | 3 |
Jon Niese (PIT) | vs. STL | 3 |
Chad Bettis (COL) | at ARI | 3 |
San Diego's lineup is nothing to write home about, but they've given Kazmir fits in his career, posting a .962 OPS against the veteran. Kazmir reportedly saw a dip in velocity after a shaky spring training. Avoid him at all costs.
