- With a victory over Chad Mendes at UFC 179, Jose Aldo cemented his place at the top of the 145-pound division. Although their second encounter was a lot closer than the first, Aldo's triumph eliminated any claims that he isn't the top dog at featherweight.
- After losing twice to Aldo, Mendes is settling into the classic Urijah Faber/Rich Franklin position of "fighter who can essentially beat anyone in the division except the champion."
- Frankie Edgar's utter debasement of Cub Swanson on Nov. 22 should have put him on another collision course with Aldo. Unfortunately "The Answer" isn't as marketable as Conor McGregor.
- Although he's probably not as deserving as Edgar, McGregor will likely book a ticket to face Aldo if he can get by Dennis Siver on Jan. 18.
