With their reported deal for Jay Bruce possibly falling apart, it appears the New York Mets have directed their focus toward another veteran outfielder as the trade deadline nears.

The Mets are reportedly making a push to acquire Detroit Tigers outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, an impending free agent whose name has surfaced repeatedly in trade rumors of late, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Over the last few days, however, the Mets have had little luck closing deals. The club's swap with the Milwaukee Brewers for Carlos Gomez allegedly broke down Wednesday night due to medical concerns, while negotiations with the Cincinnati Reds over Bruce may have "lost momentum" Friday due to Cincinnati's concern over the Mets' offer.

Acquired by the Tigers in a trade with the Boston Red Sox this winter, Cespedes has enjoyed a strong season in Detroit, hitting .293/.323/.506 (125 OPS+) with 18 home runs and 28 doubles through 102 games. If he is traded, however, Cespedes will join his fourth team in a 12-month span.

Earlier this week, the Tigers began dismantling their roster with an eye toward the future, trading David Price to the Toronto Blue Jays before shipping Joakim Soria to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
