Report: Aroldis Chapman, Josh Donaldson among players to exchange figures

Scott Rovak / USA TODAY Sports

Dozens of major leaguers avoided arbitration Friday by agreeing to new contracts with their clubs prior to the deadline of exchanging figures.

A total of 93 players settled with their teams on the final day, including David Price, who signed a record-breaking one-year, $19.75-million deal. Price's contract with the Detroit Tigers is the richest for a player before his free-agent years.

Other big signings Friday included Boston Red Sox right-hander Rick Porcello ($12.5 million), Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis ($12 million), and Washington Nationals pitcher Doug Fister ($11.4 million).

Despite the flurry of transactions, several players still remain without a contract for next season, including All-Stars Aroldis Chapman and Josh Donaldson. These players and their clubs are permitted to negotiate a settlement right up until their scheduled hearing, which begin Feb. 1.

Some clubs, such as the Toronto Blue Jays, have imposed a team policy of halting negotiations once salary requests and offers are exchanged.

Below is an unofficial list of players who exchanged figures with their teams, including their request and the club's offer. The two biggest discrepancies between team and player are both members of the Orioles: Steve Pearce ($3.4 million apart) and pitcher Bud Norris, who is seeking close to a $5 million raise from last season ($2.75 million difference).
