Yankees land McCutchen from Giants for 2 prospects
New York is officially Cutch City.
The Yankees acquired former National League MVP Andrew McCutchen and cash considerations from the San Francisco Giants on Friday in exchange for infield prospect Abiatal Avelino and pitching prospect Juan De Paula.

McCutchen is owed approximately $2.4 million over the balance of this season. The teams have reportedly agreed to split that figure down the middle, meaning San Francisco is sending $1.2 million to the Yankees, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.
The Giants acquired McCutchen from the Pittsburgh Pirates over the winter in hopes that he'd lead them back to the postseason. Instead, his tenure in the Bay Area amounted to slightly less than one full season, as the Giants have slowly slid out of the playoff race over the past month.
In New York, the 31-year-old will provide the Yankees with some much-needed outfield depth down the stretch. McCutchen will likely slide into right field to cover for Aaron Judge, who remains on the shelf with a fractured wrist.

McCutchen, a pending free agent, is hitting .255/.357/.415 (110 OPS+) with 15 homers, 28 doubles, 55 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases over 130 games.
Avelino was ranked as the Yankees' No. 23 prospect by MLB Pipeline prior to Friday's trade. The 23-year-old, who has played both shortstop and second base this year, has split his 2018 season between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre; combined, he's put up a .287/.333/.446 line with 15 homers, 25 stolen bases, and 36 extra-base hits.
De Paula, 20, has been pitching for the Yankees' Short-Season A affiliate in Staten Island. In 10 appearances this season (nine starts) he owns a 1.71 ERA and 1.29 WHIP while averaging 8.7 strikeouts and 4.9 walks per nine innings pitched. MLB Pipeline ranked him as the Yankees' No. 26 prospect.
