Thursday's First Baseman/DH Value Rankings
Here are theScore's first baseman/DH value rankings for Thursday, June 2 (all stats exclude Wednesday's games):
Value Rankings

Top Options
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Victor Martinez (DET) | vs. NYY | 10 |
Adam Lind (SEA) | at SD | 9 |
Miguel Cabrera (DET) | vs. NYY | 8 |
Travis Shaw (BOS) | at BAL | 8 |
Chris Davis (BAL) | vs. BOS | 8 |
Martinez has terrorized right-handed pitching with seven home runs, 10 doubles and a .362 batting average. Lind has shown his power can't be confined to pitcher friendly stadiums like Petco Park as he went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs on Tuesday in Safeco Field against these Padres.
Davis, like Martinez, is coming in at a slight discount on some sites. He has been slumping fiercely, including going 0-for-8 in the first two games of the Boston series. Still, his power is always lurking and Red Sox SP Rick Porcello should not act as a DFS deterrent.

Mid-Tier Targets
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
David Ortiz (BOS) | at BAL | 7 |
Eric Hosmer (KC) | at CLE | 7 |
Paul Goldschmidt (ARI) | at HOU | 7 |
Adrian Gonzalez (LAD) | at CHC | 7 |
Logan Morrison (TB) | at MIN | 6 |
Joey Votto (CIN) | at COL | 6 |
Wil Myers (SD) | vs. SEA | 6 |
Mark Reynolds (COL) | vs. CIN | 6 |
Alex Rodriguez (NYY) | at DET | 6 |
David Freese (PIT) | at MIA | 6 |
Brandon Belt (SF) | at ATL | 6 |
Joe Mauer (MIN) | vs. TB | 5 |
Hanley Ramirez (BOS) | at BAL | 5 |
Steve Pearce (TB) | at MIN | 5 |
Anthony Rizzo (CHC) | vs. LAD | 5 |
Ortiz, Goldschmidt, and Hosmer are almost prohibitively expensive, but it's because they've played incredibly consistently. All are fine choices, but there are some more affordable options that have better shots at bringing home big value. Ramirez is the one Red Sox 1B consistently left in the cold, but he's only less valuable by comparison to Ortiz and the less flashy Shaw. His slump hasn't helped.
Freese should play with the Marlins deploying a lefty, and despite moving to more of a reserve role, he's responded by hitting .353 over his last 10 games with a pair of home runs. Mauer loses some value with Rays LHP Matt Moore opposing him. Mauer's batting average against lefties has been decent, but he hasn't produced with power nearly as much.
Rizzo gets his first taste of the Dodgers' rookie phenom LHP Julio Urias, who starts in RHP Kenta Maeda's place. Rizzo has struggled against southpaws in 2016, so there will be better chances for him to excel.

Nothing to See Here
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Mark Teixeira (NYY) | at DET | 4 |
Tommy Joseph (PHI) | vs. MIL | 4 |
Justin Bour (MIA) | vs. PIT | 4 |
A.J. Pierzynski (ATL) | vs. SF | 3 |
Carlos Santana (CLE) | vs. KC | 3 |
Pedro Alvarez (BAL) | vs. BOS | 3 |
John Jaso (PIT) | at MIA | 3 |
Chris Carter (MIL) | at PHI | 2 |
Byung Ho Park (MIN) | vs. TB | 2 |
Tyler White (HOU) | vs. ARI | 2 |
Joseph is in the best position to succeed with Phillies 1B Ryan Howard shipped to the bench for at least the next few games. His salary has unfortunately skyrocketed, perhaps only for this game, and isn't worth the steep investment. Teixeira would normally be a must-start against Tigers LHP Matt Boyd, but it'd be purely in GPPs. He's been dreadful at the plate.
