Thursday's Catcher Value Rankings
Here are theScore's catcher value rankings for Thursday, June 2 (all stats exclude Wednesday's games):
Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP
Top Options
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Jonathan Lucroy (MIL) | at PHI | 8 |
Matt Wieters (BAL) | vs. BOS | 8 |
Jarrod Saltalamacchia (DET) | vs. NYY | 8 |
Tucker Barnhart (CIN) | at COL | 8 |
Buster Posey (SF) | at ATL | 8 |
You'll pay, but Lucroy is the best option on a short slate. He went 2-for-3 with a home run on Tuesday night and has been a run-producing machine over his last 10 games. Granted, it might be the time to go back to struggling Tigers backstop, Saltalamacchia. He costs much less and is facing Yankees SP Michael Pineda and his 1.87 HR/9.
Wieters will be resting a lot less often with backup Caleb Joseph on the disabled list. He's hitting .381 over his last 10 games and as good as Red Sox SP Rick Porcello has been, the switch-hitter should do fine. If Barnhart starts, he's the best offensive option the Reds have behind the plate.

Mid-Tier Targets
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Derek Norris (SD) | vs. SEA | 7 |
J.T. Realmuto (MIA) | vs. PIT | 7 |
Austin Romine (NYY) | at DET | 7 |
Yan Gomes (CLE) | vs. KC | 6 |
Carlos Ruiz (PHI) | vs. MIL | 6 |
Chris Iannetta (SEA) | at SD | 6 |
Tony Wolters (COL) | vs. CIN | 5 |
Cameron Rupp (PHI) | vs. MIL | 5 |
Drew Butera (KC) | at CLE | 5 |
Chris Herrmann (ARI) | at HOU | 5 |
Norris continues to hit the ball hard - only 14.7 percent soft contact - and continues to hit it directly at defenders. For his career, he handles LHPs consistently with a .286 batting average and 22 home runs. Gomes is likewise mired by a conspicuously poor BABIP, and has a relatively favorable matchup against Royals RHP Yordano Ventura. He just costs a bit more than Norris.

Nothing to See Here
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Francisco Cervelli (PIT) | at MIA | 4 |
Miguel Montero (CHC) | vs. LAD | 3 |
Welington Castillo (ARI) | at HOU | 3 |
Blake Swihart (BOS) | at BAL | 3 |
Dustin Garneau (COL) | vs. CIN | 3 |
Kurt Suzuki (MIN) | vs. TB | 3 |
Christian Vazquez (BOS) | at BAL | 2 |
Hank Conger (TB) | at MIN | 2 |
Curt Casali (TB) | at MIN | 2 |
Brian McCann (NYY) | at DET | 2 |
Jason Castro (HOU) | vs. ARI | 2 |
Cervelli is second-worst among all qualified batters in ISO and has seen his batting average plummet through May, where he only had one extra-base hit. He has managed lefties far better than righties, so it might be high time to see a sea change against Marlins LHP Wei-Yin Chen. Just don't be surprised if he's held to singles once again.
