You're outta here! 7 great manager meltdowns
Nothing beats a baseball manager losing his mind over what he believes is a horrendous call.
On Monday, that's exactly what happened with Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus, who unraveled during a strange fourth-inning meltdown that saw him cover home plate with his hooded sweatshirt and unleash an expletive-laden tirade at home plate umpire Doug Eddings.
In honor of Ausmus' departure, here are some of baseball's most vivid manager meltdowns over the years:
McClendon 'steals' first base
Former Pittsburgh Pirates manager Lloyd McClendon didn't agree with this close call at first, so he responded by taking the base with him.
Cox fed up with helmets
Not even Game 3 of the World Series was enough to stop Bobby Cox - the majors' all-time leader in ejections - from throwing a helmet onto the field in disgust.
Piniella kicks dirt, boots his cap
If Lou Piniella could've covered this third base ump in dirt, he would've kept trying. Instead, he settled for kicking his own cap nearly halfway to second base in his tirade.
Offerman takes a swing
Jose Offerman took things too far in the Dominican winter league when he tried to punch umpire Daniel Rayburn. The violent outburst netted Offerman a lifetime ban from the league.
Valentine fails to return undercover
Bobby Valentine thought he had ejections figured out when he assumed bad glasses and a fake mustache would keep him hidden in the dugout. Instead, he received a two-game suspension for his horrible disguise.
Weaver doesn't like being touched
First base umpire Bill Haller was - thankfully - wearing a microphone during Hall of Famer Earl Weaver's legendary rant, allowing everyone to hear one of the greatest NSFW conversations ever recorded between a skipper and an official.
Wellman goes absolutely ballistic
Phillip Wellman's epic tantrum with the Double-A Mississippi Braves in 2007 had it all: grenade rosin bags, thrown bases, and plenty of profanity.
