Report: Cubs, Crow-Armstrong finalizing long-term extension
The Chicago Cubs and outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong are closing in on a long-term extension, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.
Terms of the deal are still unknown.
Crow-Armstrong is coming off of a breakout season where he hit 31 home runs and stole 35 bases, earning him his first-career All-Star selection and Gold Glove. He also became the first player in Cubs' history to reach at least 30 home runs, 30 doubles, and 30 steals in a single season.
The soon-to-be 24-year-old was acquired by the Cubs in a 2021 trade with the New York Mets. New York traded Crow-Armstrong to Chicago for three-time All-Star infielder Javier Baez and veteran pitcher Trevor Williams.
Crow-Armstrong made his MLB debut in Sept. 2023. He owns a career batting average of .240 with 41 home runs and 143 RBIs.
He was not scheduled to become a free agent until after the 2030 campaign. Crow-Armstrong and the Cubs were engaged in extension talks last year prior to the season but tabled those discussions before the season-opening Tokyo Series.
