VIDEO: Mets score go-ahead run on Hosmer's misplay

Nearly 29 years to the day of Bill Buckner's infamous error in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, the New York Mets victimized another first baseman in a crucial spot.

With Game 1 of the World Series tied 3-3 and two outs in the eighth, the Kansas City Royals' Eric Hosmer was unable to backhand Wilmer Flores' choppy ground ball hit to his left side, allowing the speedy Juan Lagares to race around from second base and score the go-ahead run.

Hosmer's misplay at first, which was ruled an error, triggered memories of Buckner's miscue for the Boston Red Sox, when the Mets scored the winning run on Mookie Wilson's slow roller to first base to force Game 7.

Fittingly, Flores became the first batter since Wilson to put his team ahead by reaching on an error in the eighth inning or later of a World Series game, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
