Report: Twins GM Terry Ryan high on list of candidates for Blue Jays CEO

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan is reportedly at the top of a list of potential candidates to replace Toronto Blue Jays president and CEO Paul Beeston.

A Blue Jays official tells Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press that Ryan is said to be among the most coveted executives the team is reportedly pursuing.

Baltimore Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette and Kenny Williams of the Chicago White Sox are also rumored to be in the running for the position. The Blue Jays have been reportedly targeting candidates since last summer, but the search appears to be intensifying.

Beeston's contract expired Oct. 31 but it's believed he's remaining in the role under some capacity until the team hires his replacement, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi.

Ryan was pursued by the Blue Jays back in 2001 to fill their vacant GM position, but the long-time Twins executive declined the opportunity to interview with the club.

It's unclear whether the Blue Jays have contacted Ryan about the recent opening.

Ryan, 61, says he feels good after being treated for a cancerous lump in his neck prior to the 2014 season. He underwent surgery in February to remove his lymph nodes, causing him to miss spring training and several road trips during the first half.

At the end of last season, Ryan said he's looking forward to a full-time return to the front office next year.
