Report: Williams denied permission to seek Blue Jays job, considering resignation
Chicago White Sox executive vice president Kenny Williams is considering the possibility of resigning after the club refused permission for him to speak with the Toronto Blue Jays about a position with the team, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
An earlier report from ESPN's Buster Olney suggested the Blue Jays are looking for a replacement for president and CEO Paul Beeston. Such a position would constitute a promotion for Williams, but the White Sox aren't interested in letting go of the veteran executive, who served as the team's general manager from 2000 to 2012.
Williams later confirmed the report in a text to MLB.com, saying: "That ship has sailed."
He did not, however, deny the possibility of resigning to pursue a better position with another team.
“I've considered all options as anyone would given the set of circumstances,” Williams said.
