Sunday's Second Baseman Value Rankings

Nick Turchiaro / USA TODAY Sports

Here are theScore's second baseman value rankings for Sunday, May 29 (all stats exclude Saturday's games):

Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP

Top Options

Name Opponent Value
Dustin Pedroia (BOS) at TOR 9
Ian Kinsler (DET) at OAK 9
Daniel Murphy (WAS) at STL 8
Robinson Cano (SEA) vs. MIN 8
Jason Kipnis (CLE) vs. BAL 8

Pedroia, like most hitters on the Red Sox, is hitting at a smooth clip. He already has six home runs and has hits in nine of his last 10. Similarly, Murphy and Kinsler are as consistent as they come and are among the constant elite. Kinsler has more upside though Murphy might not be far behind.

Cano is probably the most valuable second baseman in MLB but his price is high enough so as he isn't a slam dunk.

Mid-Tier Targets

Name Opponent Value
Aaron Hill (ARI) vs. CIN 7
Jonathan Schoop (BAL) at CLE 7
Josh Harrison (PIT) at TEX 7
Jose Altuve (HOU) at LAA 7
Joe Panik (SF) at COL 6
Chase Utley (LAD) at NYM 6
Ben Zobrist (CHC) vs. PHI 6
DJ LeMahieu (COL) vs. SF 6
Johnny Giavotella (LAA) vs. HOU 5
Steve Pearce (TB) vs. NYY 5
Jed Lowrie (OAK) vs. DET 5
Devon Travis (TOR) vs. BOS 5

Hill has been far better than his early season numbers. He is still a boom-or-bust option as five of his six home runs have come in two games. His low salary makes him a solid bargain option. Altuve has been shaky over his last six games, failing to return value. His salary will require savings elsewhere, but his upside is as good as it gets.

Panik's price will surge because of playing at Coors Field, but unless he can manage some production in addition to a couple hits, it's not worth spending up. Travis gets his toughest test of his young season against Red Sox SP David Price. He is a decent low-ownership candidate.

Nothing to See Here

Name Opponent Value
Jurickson Profar (TEX) vs. PIT 4
Derek Dietrich (MIA) at ATL 4
Jean Segura (ARI) vs. SD 4
Brandon Phillips (CIN) at MIL 3
Brett Lawrie (CWS) at KC 3
Brian Dozier (MIN) at SEA 3
Chase d'Arnaud (ATL) vs. MIA 2

Profar has only just come up, and his DFS salary is far from prohibitive. He could bust out entirely. Segura's scorching start has evaporated and while he'll have games where he produces, he's not the must-start he was. Dozier's bat hasn't woken up, and Mariners SP Taijuan Walker isn't an ideal matchup.
