The holiday season is upon, the calendar has flipped to December, and teams are gearing up for the winter meetings, which kick off Monday in Nashville.

As front offices lay out their wish lists, there are plenty of items available on the market, with Jordan Zimmermann the only top-tier free agent to have signed so far.

Here are the three biggest needs for every team:

AL EAST

The Boston Red Sox are expected to make the biggest splash in the division, with Dave Dombrowski's sights set on plucking an ace from the free-agent market. The Toronto Blue Jays appear out on a top-tier starter after signing Marco Estrada and J.A. Happ, while New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is listening on everyone, despite the club's numerous high-priced commitments.

AL CENTRAL

The Cleveland Indians have made it a priority to stock their depleted outfield this offseason, and will likely be joined in that search by the Kansas City Royals after Alex Rios and Alex Gordon hit free agency. The Detroit Tigers addressed their rotation by signing frontline starter Jordan Zimmermann, while the Chicago White Sox need to strengthen a number of infield holes should they look to contend next season.

AL WEST

After using eight different left fielders last season, Los Angeles Angels GM Billy Eppler will attempt to land some help in the corner outfield. Despite getting Gold Glover Andrelton Simmons, Eppler hasn't been the busiest executive in the division. Jerry Dipoto has already swung four trades and a pair of signings in his efforts to make the Seattle Mariners a contender. The Houston Astros are looking to build off their 2015 success with a hard-throwing reliever and an upgrade at first base.

NL EAST

The Atlanta Braves have already unloaded a number of veterans over the last calendar year, so it shouldn't come as any surprise if they part ways with Nick Markakis and Freddie Freeman. There's no shortage of sellers in the majors' weakest division, as the Miami Marlins are rumored to be unhappy with Jose Fernandez and Marcell Ozuna, and the Washington Nationals are reportedly poised to reshuffle their bullpen, with Jonathan Papelbon and Drew Storen on the block. Meanwhile. the New York Mets are looking to mitigate the potential loss of both Daniel Murphy and Yoenis Cespedes.

NL CENTRAL

The Chicago Cubs swung a pair of minor deals to address the bullpen, but those are expected to be mere appetizers as Theo Epstein and Co. appear set to make a major play for an ace. Coming off a 100-win season, the St. Louis Cardinals will need to replace Jason Heyward and John Lackey, who departed to free agency, in addition to Lance Lynn, who underwent Tommy John surgery. The club has already expressed interest in first baseman Chris Davis, for his power and ability to play multiple positions.

NL WEST

The Arizona Diamondbacks have the offense, and the front office appears committed to beefing up the pitching staff, having reportedly offered Johnny Cueto a $120-million deal that the right-hander shot down. Pitching seems to be the theme in the division, as the heavyweights in Los Angeles and San Francisco both appear primed to make a big move to acquire a arm.
