Report: Brewers, Tigers discussing trade for Kinsler, Justin Wilson

The Milwaukee Brewers have lost their lead atop the National League Central, but it appears they're trying to right the ship via the trade market.

Milwaukee is reportedly engaged in ongoing discussions with the Detroit Tigers about second baseman Ian Kinsler and left-handed reliever Justin Wilson, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

Morosi added that a deal is not imminent at the moment.

Second base has been a black hole for Milwaukee this season. Jonathan Villar, last year's stolen-base king, has regressed significantly at the plate, forcing the team to turn to 31-year-old journeyman Eric Sogard in his stead; while Sogard has produced beyond any expectation, he's missed the last two weeks due to an ankle issue.

Kinsler is in the midst of a down season by his standards, but the 35-year-old is still hitting a respectable .248/.331/.399 with nine homers and seven stolen bases over 81 games. His contract contains a $10-million club option for 2018, as well as a 10-team no-trade clause; whether the Brewers are one of the 10 teams on that list remains unknown.

Wilson is in the midst of a career-best season for the Tigers, owning a 2.75 ERA and 12 saves over 41 appearances.

The Brewers face some heavy competition in the race to land both Tigers veterans. Wilson is one of the most coveted relief arms on the market this deadline, and has reportedly drawn interest from the Dodgers, Astros, and Red Sox, among other clubs.

Boston has also reportedly inquired with Detroit about Kinsler, despite possessing an All-Star second baseman in Dustin Pedroia.
