Report: Nationals showing continued interest in Tigers' Wilson
Despite Sunday's acquisition of Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle, the Washington Nationals don't appear to be finished in their search for relievers.
The Nats continue to show interest in Detroit Tigers left-hander Justin Wilson, sources told Jon Morosi of MLB Network, who states the club is intent on adding another reliever and potentially a starting pitcher.
The 29-year-old Wilson has been all over the rumor mill as it was reported on Monday that the Tampa Bay Rays appear to be "gaining traction" for his services.
The Nationals' need for bullpen reinforcements has been evident since the start of the year, as it's been the team's most glaring weakness. If the Nats were to add a reliever of Wilson's caliber, it would immediately give the club three talented veterans after the additions of the aforementioned Madson and Doolittle.
After struggling in 2016, Wilson has rebounded nicely this year with the Tigers. Following the club's decision to demote and eventually part ways with Francisco Rodriguez, Wilson took over as closer. He's appeared in 37 games, recording 10 saves, 50 strikeouts, and a 0.90 WHIP.
He will earn $2.7 million this year and is under team control until 2019.
