Farrell calls for media accountability after Price's spat with reporter

John Farrell has spoken to David Price regarding the pitcher's heated postgame exchange with a member of the Boston media Wednesday, but the Red Sox bench boss admitted he felt reporters should also be held responsible for their comments on social media.

"So much is made about a player having accountability and standing up and answering questions after a game. That's a two-way street," Farrell said Friday, according to Jen McCaffrey of MassLive.com. "When tweets are sent out by whomever, there's absolutely no accountability in many, many cases.

"I'm not saying a broad brush, but that's where a lot of exception is taken. When comments are made to a mass audience without any accountability, that's what Twitter has done for us."

Prior to his exchange with a reporter Wednesday, Price had also revealed that, aside from scrum interviews after his starts, he will no longer speak to the media.

Following his start Thursday against the New York Yankees, in which Price was shelled for six earned runs on eight hits in five innings, the 31-year-old southpaw was asked if he had any further comments about the incident from the night prior, though his stance remained firm.

"No I don't," Price said. "I stand behind it."
