Price stands behind comments directed at media

David Price didn't have his best stuff Thursday night as the Boston Red Sox lost to the New York Yankees 9-1. Normally, it could be chalked up to baseball-related randomness. But the timing will automatically bring other questions to mind about the left-hander.

His struggles came a night after an altercation with a Boston reporter and Price announcing he would no longer speak with media on days he isn't starting.

Following the game, he was asked if his emotions were shaky or if he had trouble focusing. Price told reporters that wasn't the case.

"No, it was not tough at all to focus today," he said. "This is baseball. Stuff happens. It happens to the best of the best. It happened to me tonight. ... I get to go home, see my family, see my kid, see my dogs, my mother-in-law. I'll be ready in five days."

When more pointedly asked if he had any comment about the incident, he stood firm.

"No I don't," he said. "I stand behind it."

He added that he and manager John Farrell would talk about it back in Boston. Until then, he's staying mum.

Price allowed two big home runs to Gary Sanchez - who has now hit four long balls off him in seven at-bats - and his offense provided him little support. His next start - and, presumably, the next time he'll speak to the media - should come early next week against the Philadelphia Phillies.
