Oklahoma approved a new contract Tuesday for head coach Lincoln Riley that ensures he'll earn a larger salary than his quarterback, Oakland Athletics draftee Kyler Murray, according to the Tulsa World's Eric Bailey.

Riley, who's entering his second year as head coach of the Sooners, will make $4.8 million in 2018, about $100,000 more than Murray, who signed with the Athletics after being selected ninth overall in the MLB draft.

Riley was initially scheduled to make $3.1 million this coming season. His new deal ties him to Oklahoma through the 2023 campaign and will see him make an average of $5 million annually.

The 34-year-old led Oklahoma to a 12-2 mark and a College Football Playoff appearance last year after inheriting the position from Bob Stoops.

Murray is expected to serve as Riley's first-string pivot this year. The former multi-sport star will forgo his senior season at Oklahoma to begin his professional baseball career with the Athletics.
