Tyronn Lue is interested in reuniting with Kyrie Irving as head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, sources told Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

This follows a report from last month indicating Irving preferred Lue - who currently works as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers - as the Nets' next bench boss following the unexpected firing of Kenny Atkinson.

Irving and Lue won a championship together in Cleveland in 2016. After reaching the Eastern Conference finals in the subsequent two seasons with LeBron James still on the Cavaliers, Lue was fired by the organization following a disappointing 0-6 start to the 2018-19 campaign.

The 42-year-old was previously in the running to become head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers but reportedly turned down a three-year, $18-million offer. Los Angeles wound up hiring Frank Vogel, who helped guide the club to a Western Conference-best 49-14 record before the NBA season was indefinitely suspended.

Jacques Vaughn went 2-0 as the Nets' interim head coach after Atkinson was relieved of his duties on March 7.
