A big deal appears to be brewing as Friday's non-waiver trade deadline approaches, and it may involve more than just two teams.

The San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, and Boston Red Sox have discussed a three-team swap, according to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, though details remain scarce.

Though the Padres have been relatively quiet in the days leading up to the deadline, rival teams told ESPN's Jayson Stark earlier this week that general manager A.J. Preller could be poised to swing a "huge deal." Several of their marquee players - namely Justin Upton, Craig Kimbrel, Tyson Ross, and Andrew Cashner - have drawn interest from around the league.

The Cubs have been a bit more active, conversely, landing Dan Haren from the Miami Marlins on Friday afternoon in exchange for a pair of minor leaguers. In recent days, they've been linked in trade rumors to the Padres, who have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring one of Chicago's young shortstops.

Like the Padres, the Red Sox have yet to make a splash on the trade market, though Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reported Friday morning that they're trying to unload some "immovable" assets.
