The Oakland Athletics have agreed to a contract with free-agent left-hander Alex Wood, sources told Robert Murray of FanSided.
Details of Wood's contract with Oakland aren't yet known.
The 33-year-old southpaw spent the past three campaigns with the San Francisco Giants, authoring a 4.41 ERA and 3.84 FIP in 367 innings as both a starter and reliever.
Wood should help stabilize an Athletics rotation that ranked near the bottom of the league in ERA, FIP, fWAR, and home runs allowed per nine innings.
A's projected 2024 rotation:
PITCHER | THROWS | 2023 ERA |
---|---|---|
JP Sears | L | 4.54 |
Paul Blackburn | R | 4.43 |
Alex Wood | L | 4.33 |
Luis Medina | R | 5.42 |
Joe Boyle | R | 1.69 |
Oakland used 24 different starters in 2023, tying a major-league record for the most used in a season.
