Report: Matz could undergo elbow surgery for bone spur
There's a chance Steven Matz could require surgery to treat a bone spur.
The New York Mets announced the left-hander is still having elbow discomfort, but he doesn't have any structural damage, according to Newsday's Marc Carig.
General manager Sandy Alderson will be part of a meeting to decide whether or not Matz will pitch through the pain, or have the issue nullified through surgery.
Though Matz is scheduled to start on Wednesday, the club is considering skipping his turn. If that happens, Logan Verrett or Sean Gilmartin will get the ball.
In Friday's game against the Atlanta Braves, Matz was seen rubbing his elbow in the dugout between innings, a week after he told reporters his arm feels tender.
The news came after the Mets overcame a two-day whirlwind of dealing with the scary elbow injury Noah Syndergaard suffered during a start against the Kansas City Royals.
Syndergaard exited the game early to get tests, which later revealed no structural damage.
