Douglas Costa explains why he chose Bayern Munich over Chelsea

Douglas Costa has revealed why he opted to join Bayern Munich this summer despite the advances of Chelsea.

The Brazilian star moved from Shakhtar Donetsk for around €30 million and has made an instant impression at the Allianz Arena, more than filling the void left by the sidelined Franck Ribery.

"Chelsea also wanted me," Costa told Bild via ESPN FC. "There was great interest and they made great efforts, but I wanted to join Pep Guardiola by all means. And Bayern."

It looks like his decision has paid off, with the Bavarian outfit already having its spot in the Champions League knockout stages secured and sitting unbeaten with an eight-point cushion atop the Bundesliga.

Costa has tallied seven assists in 12 league starts, while weighing in with two goals himself.

"It was a conscious decision in favour of Pep and Bayern because I was convinced that I can learn more here," he said.

Costa is currently suffering a thigh problem and will be forced to sit out Saturday's match with Borussia Monchengladbach and likely more contests beyond that date.

In his absence, Ribery is back from injury and ready to reclaim his spot in the lineup.
