BC Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke will undergo surgery to address a Lisfranc foot injury suffered in Friday's win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the team announced Sunday.

"After extensive consultation with team doctors and foot specialists, Nathan was diagnosed with a Lisfranc sprain in his right foot," the Lions said in a statement. "It has been determined that the best course of action is for Nathan to undergo surgery, which will happen very soon."

The Lions are optimistic the Canadian signal-caller will make a late-season return.

The 24-year-old passer left Friday's game after getting sacked by Roughriders defensive lineman Pete Robertson in the fourth quarter. Rourke racked up 375 passing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions before exiting the contest.

Rourke entered Week 11 with a league-leading 2,906 passing yards and 23 passing touchdowns.

Fellow Canadian Michael O'Connor replaced Rourke last week and will start Friday against the Roughriders. BC also has Antonio Pipkin listed on its quarterback depth chart.
