Roughriders acquire Vernon Adams from Alouettes
The Saskatchewan Roughriders acquired quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. from the Montreal Alouettes on Tuesday in exchange for defensive back Tevaughn Campbell, the clubs announced.
The Riders also received a 2018 fifth-round draft pick in the deal, while the Als obtained a third-round pick in 2018 and 2019.
The move marks yet another attempt by Saskatchewan to find its quarterback of the future. The 24-year-old Adams impressed in three starts for Montreal last season, but was demoted to backup duties in the offseason after the Alouettes acquired Darian Durant from these very Roughriders.
Adams landed in Montreal via a blockbuster trade that saw the Als send a first-round pick to the BC Lions in exchange for his negotiating rights. Adams came to the CFL after a prolific NCAA career that began at Eastern Washington and ended at Oregon.
Campbell, also 24, has appeared in 22 games with the Calgary Stampeders and Roughriders.
