Ribeiro attributes recent misconducts to reputation

During the Nashville Predators' third consecutive shutout loss against the New York Rangers on Monday, Mike Ribeiro received his league-leading third misconduct penalty of the young NHL season - and second in two games.

On Wednesday, the veteran forward discussed his frustration with the recent penalties with Adam Vingan of the Tennessean.

"Two of them, I think was just because it's me," Ribeiro said, before referring to his most recent infraction. "I didn't need to look too far for the call (Monday). (The referee's) staring at me when it happens and doesn't call it, so I got frustrated about it."

After being clipped in the face with Jesper Fast's stick late in the third period, the 35-year-old received a 10-minute misconduct for voicing his displeasure to officials when no high-sticking call was made.

"It was the end of the game, too, so I don't think if it was the first period I would have done the same thing. There's not much we could do there with one minute left, so I kind of lost it."

Ribeiro went on to admit that he needs to do his best not to put himself in situations where he can receive those calls, but not before saying: "98 percent of the players that do that will just get a talk and not a 10."

The Predators will look to break their scoreless drought against the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday. If shut out, they will become the third team in league history to go four straight games without a goal, joining the 1967-68 Oakland Seals and the 1928-29 Chicago Blackhawks.
