Ducks' Getzlaf worried appendix would rupture before undergoing surgery
Anaheim Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf spoke to the media Friday for the first time since undergoing surgery to remove his appendix.
"It got to the point where we were worried about it rupturing at some point," Getzlaf said. "It wasn't sore on a daily basis, but I had three or four episodes where I was in pretty extreme pain."
Getzlaf has missed the last two games, and is expected to be out anywhere from 4-to-12 days, but he's progressing in his recovery.
"I don't imagine it being too long. Today was a lot better day than it was yesterday, so as long as I can keep moving forward right now it shouldn't be very long," Getzlaf said.
The 30-year-old forward added that he remains confident the Ducks are in the process of turning the season around despite their shocking 1-7-2 record.
"The guys played hard last game," Getzlaf said. "It's a bounce here or there, and we've just gotta find a way to get those bounces on our side."
The Ducks will look to get back to their winning ways when they host the Nashville Predators on Sunday.
