The Arizona Coyotes placed forward Joe Vitale on injured reserve with an upper-body injury.
Vitale sustained the injury during a spirited fight with Boston Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller on Saturday, ending up in a trip to the hospital.
The 30-year-old was held pointless in his only game of the season.
In response, the Coyotes recalled 24-year-old rookie Matthias Plachta from Springfield. He has no points in three AHL games this season.
