Blues' Gomez compares Tarasenko to Pavel Bure

Scott Gomez has seen his fair share of talent over the course of his 16-year NHL career.

The veteran center now finds himself on a team with Vladimir Tarasenko, and Gomez is almost at a loss for words when trying to describe the St. Louis Blues budding superstar.

"I think it's safe to say I've been around a long time and I've seen some unbelievable guys," Gomez said Sunday, according to Ed Tait of the Winnipeg Free Press. "I got to play with (Alexander) Mogilny ... but this guy might be at a different level. I don't think we even know the potential. It's almost scary. The closest thing I can think of is when Pavel Bure first broke into the league."

High praise, considering Bure was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012. Gomez clearly sees something special in the 23-year-old Russian.

"When this guy gets the puck in almost any area, you've got to think goal almost every time. He's a great kid, he's got a smile on his face all the time and the guys just love him. You can tell he just wants to get better. It's pretty neat. You don't want to take him for granted. He's great for our league. He's a special one right there."

Through six games, Tarasenko owns a share of the league lead in both goals (five) and points (nine). He's recorded at least a point in every game, including a two-goal effort Sunday in Winnipeg.
