Blue Jackets prospect Werenski returning to University of Michigan for sophomore year
Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Zach Werenski will play at least one more season for the University of Michigan Wolverines.
The eighth overall pick in June's draft confirmed to NHL.com on Wednesday night that he plans to return to the college program for his sophomore season. Werenski was reportedly considering the possibility of playing for the OHL's London Knights in 2015-16.
The 18-year-old defenseman scored the game-winning goal with 37 seconds left in overtime to give the United States a 5-4 win over Finland in National Junior Evaluation Camp exhibition action Wednesday. The U.S. rallied from a 4-2 deficit.
"The coaching staff kind of talked about dealing with adversity and battling back, and that's what we did against Finland," Werenski said. "It was good to see."
Werenski collected 25 points in 35 games during his freshman season at Michigan in 2014-15.
