The Anaheim Ducks have added a forward through free agency.

The club officially announced the signing of Chris Stewart to a one-year contract Sunday. The deal is believed to be worth $1.7 million, as reported Saturday by John Shannon of Sportsnet.

The 27-year-old winger has bounced around the league over the past two seasons, suiting up for no fewer than four teams in that time. His most recent stint was with the Minnesota Wild, during which he recorded three goals and eight assists in 20 regular-season games.

A shoulder injury bumped him from the playoffs after registering two assists in eight games.

Drafted 18th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in 2006, Stewart oozes potential as a scoring power forward, but injuries have limited his production over the years.

He hit career highs in goals (28), points (64), and shots (221) as a second-year player back in 2009-10, and has yet to come close to replicating those numbers.

Stewart has scored 129 goals in 463 career games, good for an average of 23 goals per 82 games played.

The Ducks seem to be banking on the possibility that Stewart can help fill the void left by Matt Beleskey at a fraction of the cost of the departed 22-goal scorer. Should things work out for the best, this could become one of the better value signings of the offseason.
