Browns' McCown plans to play next week despite shoulder injury
Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh McCown suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens, but he intends to be under center next week.
"That is my plan," McCown told reporters after the game.
The veteran quarterback took multiple blows to his non-throwing shoulder in the first half of the game. He was taken to the locker room to be examined but returned to the game. He finished the contest and will undergo an MRI on Monday.
"It is alright. I just fell on it a few times. I'll be alright, though," McCown said. "Just for whatever reason, (I just kept landing) on the left side. It obviously was pretty frustrating. ... Obviously, it does not feel good, but that is part of the game."
McCown was handed the reins of the Browns' offense after Robert Griffin III suffered a fracture in his shoulder that will sideline him for 10-to-12 weeks. McCown admitted that the opportunity to start in his 14th season played a part in his decision to play through pain.
"I think it is just not wanting to not be out there with your guys," he said. "Just knowing the window for me right now and understanding that I don't want to miss snaps. I don't want to be out there without my guys. Unless it is going to fall off, let's try to make it work and make it go. That is my mentality."
