Lukaku open to Mourinho reunion, may leave Everton this summer

Should Romelu Lukaku depart Everton this summer, the Belgian would not be opposed to a reunion with former boss Jose Mourinho.

Lukaku, 22, is in the midst of a dominant season at Goodison Park, having notched 25 goals in all competitions. That success, of course, has led to fervent discussion about his future, with the imposing attacker being linked with a move to some of Europe's most illustrious sides.

One of those clubs is Manchester United, which is widely expected to bring Mourinho aboard ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.

The frosty relationship between the two men while at Chelsea is well-documented, with Mourinho sanctioning the sale of the striker before claiming he wasn't motivated to fight for a starting place at Stamford Bridge.

But asked if he would be open to working with the polarizing Portuguese again, Lukaku told Belgian outlet La Derniere Heure that any past issues are exactly that: in the past.

"Of course," Lukaku said of his openness to a reunion. "Some people will say that I need to convince him but it's not a question of that. Three years ago I was 20 and I wasn't ready to be immediately effective in a top team.

"Several good seasons, including the current one, have changed the situation. I'll be 23 (in May) and I could leave this summer."

Lukaku also addressed recent comments by his father, who opined that the young attacker should have eyes on joining either United or German juggernaut Bayern Munich.

"I understand why he said that. When I was small, they were two teams that impressed me with their attacking strength," Lukaku said. "Then they're teams that he likes a lot. We'll see what happens. Whatever happens, it's always nice to be linked with such clubs. That's the proof that they're watching me. The rest is my agent's business."
