Lukaku should join Manchester United or Bayern Munich, says father

Romelu Lukaku's father believes the time has come for his son to leave Everton and test himself at a big club once again.

Lukaku joined the Toffees from Chelsea in 2014 in a £28-million deal, and despite a slow start to his career at Goodison Park, he has emerged as its biggest attraction. The 22-year-old has scored 25 goals in 36 appearances this season, and his father Roger sees there is sufficient interest in his son to have him consider a move.

"I think he must choose Manchester United or Bayern Munich," Lukaku Sr. told Het Laatste Nieuws, as translated by Sky Sports. "Manchester United is a team under construction with no real focus. Bayern Munich is a machine where he can rotate well. The only condition is if Robert Lewandowski leaves."

The likes of Juventus and Atletico Madrid have also been linked with Lukaku, who last week openly questioned Everton's performances. He admitted in an interview with the Guardian that he has ambitions of playing in the Champions League.

United, currently one point behind the fourth and final Champions League spot, could look to reinforce its attack with Lukaku in the offseason. But the potential arrival of Jose Mourinho could also complicate any potential transfer. Mourinho famously allowed Lukaku to depart Chelsea, first on loan, and then on a permanent basis.
